Based in Ghana, Lisa Wei is a Strategy Fellow, supporting Grameen Foundation's mHealth initiatives.
Lisa comes to Grameen Foundation with a passion to leverage her business consulting background to empower the world’s poor to reach their potential. Lisa grew up in China, the UK, and Canada before attending the University of Pennsylvania for her undergraduate degree. While at Penn, she was an avid volunteer and interned in both the public and private sector at the UN Information Center in Washington DC, HSBC Securities in New York, and a Japanese engineering firm in Beijing, China.
Since graduating from Penn, Lisa has worked as a business strategy consultant in New York and San Francisco, advising Fortune 500 companies on mergers & acquisitions and strategic business development, gaining exposure to a variety of industries. A business trip to India in 2012 opened her eyes to developing countries and inspired her to redirect her skills towards making a positive social impact in the world. She took a sabbatical to pursue a fellowship with Vittana in Kenya, where she helped a local financial institution in Nairobi develop and pilot a student loan program targeting technical & vocational school students. In her spare time, she went on several treks & safaris and enjoyed immersing herself in Nairobi’s vibrant social enterprise community.
Lisa is excited to join the Grameen team in Accra, Ghana in the fall of 2014 as the Mobile Healthcare Strategy Fellow, helping to develop sustainable business models for Grameen’s Mobile Technology for Community Health (MOTECH) product suite. She looks forward to exploring West Africa, expanding her culinary horizons, and making new friends while contributing to Grameen’s mission.
