Howard Sherman has 25 years experience in journalism and digital media as a reporter, business manager and product strategist. He helped launch or lead eight Internet news and information companies and has been part of New York City’s tech community since 1994. He’s been a senior member of teams that built one of NYC’s earliest and largest Internet service providers, The New York Times’ first online events and entertainment guide and patent-pending technology to distribute Web site content to social media platforms. Howard was most recently General Manager of Emerging Business at About.com where he ran ConsumerSearch.com, a product review site and CalorieCount.com, one of the Internet’s largest health and wellness communities and a leading provider of mobile dieting and nutrition tools. Howard also worked in government and as a business strategy consultant for non-profit organizations.
During his Grameen Foundation Fellowship, Howard will be working in Nairobi, Kenya for the TaroWorks team leading sales, marketing and business development efforts. Howard’s wife Martha Hally, a New York City-based costumer designer, will be joining him in Kenya to pursue ideas she has for contributing to the local community. Martha and Howard are avid hikers who are looking forward to exploring Kenya’s countryside and climbing Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro - if they can work up the nerve.
